Kerala is a state in South India on the Malabar Coast and is best known for beautiful beaches like Kovalam and Varkala and scenic backwaters. There is so much more to see, experience and discover in Kerala though. From national parks like Periyar and Eravikulam, elephant and monkey sanctuaries to tea, coffee and spice plantations. Oh and the beaches… did I mention the beaches? Possibly one of the most memorable things to do in Kerala is to watch Theyyam, a traditional dance, which is usually performed in North Kerala temples. The visuals will blow your mind. You might be able to watch a performance in the Kerala Museum in Kochi too.
Tea in Munnar
3 hours away from Kochi you will find the Munnar tea plantation where you can watch tea processing and sample different teas. If that’s not enough you can hire a car from Suryanelli to visit a 100 year old factory in the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate.

Whether you explore Kochi on foot or by bike, the architecture at Fort Kochi is worth a guided tour. Let a professional tour guide point out the Arab, British, Dutch, Chinese and Portuguese influences. While in Kochi check out the famous Chinese fishing nets, Fort Kochi beach, the Jewish Synagogue and the Indo Portuguese Museum.

If you love nature why not live in nature even if it’s just for one night. Stay in a Tree House at night at Munnar, Wayanad, Athirapally or Thekkady and during the day go rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking.

You can also watch the snake boat races in Alappuzha or take a spice or coffee plantation tour. One thing is for sure, Kerala really has it all, whether you’re visiting for a few days, a week or a month or two… you won’t get bored!
